Storage

Use drives and network folders

Sync folders on your computer, attached storage or mounted network shares.

Folders on one computer

Choose This computer for both endpoints, then select two different folders. Do not select a folder inside the other folder, or use overlapping task folders.

External drives

Connect the drive before selecting or running the task. Keep it connected during transfers. If the drive is disconnected, reconnect it and check that the same folder is available before resuming.

NAS and network shares

Mount or map the NAS share in Windows or macOS first, using your operating system’s supported sharing tools. Confirm you can open and write to the intended folder before selecting it in SyncKeeper. This is folder synchronization, not NAS administration or disk-image backup.

A missing drive or unreachable share must not be treated as an intentionally empty folder. Reconnect the storage and inspect the task status before running again.

Cross-platform names

Windows and Mac differ in filename rules, case sensitivity and permissions. Review compatibility warnings rather than renaming or overwriting files blindly. Use names that both systems support.
